Alex Len‘s name has been associated with just about every lottery pick team as a possible choice in the NBA draft. This draft is so unpredictable that no one is daring to discount any possibility on where various players could wind up.

The only team where Len’s name has not been connected is the Orlando Magic, but with good reason. The Magic are in need of a perimeter player, and that the possibility of Len being picked No. 2 overall by Orlando would be a long shot.

But in recent NBA mock drafts, Len has moved closer to the top as teams have taken notice of his potential as a key defensive force inside and are drooling over the chances of having the 7-foot-1 native of of the Ukraine in their lineup.

Is there any scenario where the Magic might select him? Probably only one. If the Cleveland Cavaliers pulled off what would be a semi-surprise by drafting Ben McLemore rather than Norlens Noel, the Magic, who have been coveting McLemore, might look at Len’s rising stock.

The Magic do have a little more firepower inside than their perimeter game, but they are overflowing with excellent post players. If they would look at Len very closely and see what gifts he brings to the floor that they could use, they’ll be in very good shape by selection day.

When a franchise is trying to bounce back from having the worse record in the league, it needs to look at all the options. It would behoove the Magic to do that.
