2013 NBA Draft: Atlanta Hawks Trade Up for Super Potential with Lucas Nogueira

Besides winning the award for best draft night picture, Lucas Nogueria will become a member of the Atlanta Hawks after they traded up to grab him with the 16th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. Atlanta owned the 17th and 18th picks in this year’s draft, but they decided to move up from 18 and give up number 44 to ensure they would get their guy in Nogueria.

Nogueira is a true seven footer and at only 20 years old, he has plenty of time to grow into his body and develop an offensive game and a defensive mindset.

Personally, this is a great pick for the Hawks. As of right now, the only players on the Hawks roster under contract are Al Horford, Louis Williams and John Jenkins. General manager Danny Ferry clearly has a rebuilding process ahead of him as they will definitely lose Josh Smith and most likely lose Jeff Teague as well.

What better way to start your rebuilding process than by taking a young big man who is a freak athlete and has all the potential in the world? Unless they can real in Dwight Howard or another big time free agent or two, the Hawks won’t be expected to compete anytime soon. Likewise, they won’t expect Nogueria to contribute anytime soon.

He is raw offensively and a little weak, but the fact that he is very aggressive and athletic means he can certainly develop into a very solid role player. It’s a good pick for the Hawks as he will learn a lot from the classy veteran Al Horford.
