2013 NBA Draft: Phoenix Suns Select ‘Serbian Derrick Rose’ Nemanja Nedovic, Trade to Golden State Warriors
Boy, what a first round. We witnessed many trades go down and even trades within trades happening left and right. With the final pick in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft, the Phoenix Suns selected Nemanja Nedovic out of Serbia.
The pick however, will be traded to the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors did not have a pick in the draft, but worked out a trade to acquire the final pick. Originally, the Warriors had acquired a pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves but after a couple of swaps, wound up at number 30.
Nedovic is a very athletic guard, and is even referred to as the Serbian Derrick Rose — I know, not a fair comparison. But hey, I didn’t make it up. You can thank ESPN for that one.
It is unclear whether Nedovic will make the roster this year or play a year in the D-League. With point guard Stephen Curry the obvious starter and Jarrett Jack’s status unclear, the Warriors, for now, have two solid point guards.
The idea would be to grab another veteran point guard to back up Curry if Jack winds up leaving. So, again, Nedovic may have a tough time making the final roster when it’s all said and done.
In any event, the Warriors got themselves into this draft and they must have seen something in this kid otherwise they wouldn’t have made the move. It will be interesting to see what comes of Nedovic in the near future, but for now I wouldn’t count on an immediate impact from the Serbian sensation.
