2013 NBA Draft: Sacramento Kings Get Steal In Ben McLemore

The 2013 NBA Draft will be looked at in a number of different ways when it is all set and done. There were odd picks all around and it allowed the Sacramento Kings to pick Kansas guard Ben McLemore with the no. 7 pick. McLemore averaged 15.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game for the Jayhawks during his one season there. He is a very interesting pick to say the least though for the Kings, who will have new coach Michael Malone on the sidelines when the 2013-14 season gets underway.

This is a Sacramento team that was lacking in a big way at the shooting guard position last season and now gets a player who can fill the hoop up on a regular basis in McLemore. If Sacramento is smart, they will put a lineup out there that includes Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins to go with McLemore. There is size there and a ton of ability at the guard position, but it will depend on whether or not Evans is back next season since he is a restricted free agent. It would be smart of the Kings for to consider moving Marcus Thornton now with McLemore on the team.

Thornton could bring some solid trade value being just 26 years old. This night though belongs to McLemore, who, honestly, should have been picked with one of the top two or three picks overall. Sacramento got a steal here and they will benefit in a big way from it. This is going to be a much different Kings team from the one that finished 28-54 this season. I am curious to see how McLemore does on the pro level with his defense, especially going to a team that was the worst in the NBA last season in points allowed. If McLemore can help lead this Sacramento team to 35-38 wins next season, this will be a very successful selection and Kings fans will look back on this day with a big smile on their faces.

Rondo Perfectly Guesses Atlanta's Final Play

Say what you will about Rajon Rondo, but there's no way to deny that he's an incredibly smart basketball player. Last evening against the Atlanta Hawks, the Sacramento Kings were up by three points with 1.9 seconds left, and Atlanta had one final possession to tie things up. Rondo immediately recognized the play the Hawks had drawn up and directed DeMarcus Cousins to an empty space on the floor where the Hawks were planning to send a player to take a three. Rondo's smarts made the Hawks botch the play, and the Kings held serve for the win.

Watch Kings' Rondo Attempt To Trip Mavs' Williams

Last night's game between the Sacramento Kings and Dallas Mavericks was one of the most entertaining of the season. It was a back-and-forth contest that ended on a Deron Williams three-pointer as time expired in double-overtime. Unfortunately, Williams almost didn't get to take that shot as Rajon Rondo attempted to trip him from the bench earlier in the game which could have caused serious injury. Rondo should be suspended for his actions.
