Oklahoma City Thunder Add Guard Depth With Alex Abrines in 2013 NBA Draft

With the 32nd pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, the Oklahoma City Thunder select — dramatic pause — Alex Abrines, a sharpshooting two-guard from Spain. Alright, I know I’m glamorizing this pick a little bit, but this late in the draft, it’s hard to get too excited about picks, especially because many are players who no one has heard of.

Abrines has been compared to Rudy Fernandez and has been said to have extremely deep range for his position and has one of the best shots in the class. He may be one of the lesser-known prospects, but I could see this guy ending up in a three-point contest somewhere down the line and turn into one of those guys that just torches you from downtown.

He is one of the best young talents in the draft at age 20 and could be a solid bench guy for the Thunder that could turn into a valuable shooter.

Being knocked a bit for his lack of strength and size, the youngster from Spain has plenty of time to bulk up and turn into an NBA-type bench contributor. He reminds me a bit of Manu Ginobili with his outside touch and his ability to thrash to the basket, but he will need a few rings and a load of playing time to earn that name.

The kid has a bright future in this league, and being on one of the best young teams in the NBA, he has the perfect situation surrounding him to succeed. Watch out for this guy from the three-point line.

Solid choice, Oklahoma City.

Hornets Inexplicably Allow Durant Free Dunk

While I understand that Oklahoma City Thunder SF Kevin Durant is physically intimidating when driving the lane, the Charlotte Hornets should be ashamed of themselves for the defensive effort they put forth during this play. I mean, they didn't even try. The Hornets have made some solid strides this season, but boneheaded mental collapses like this will prevent them from continuing to build momentum.
