2013 NBA Draft: Memphis Grizzlies Send Pick To Denver Nuggets
The Memphis Grizzlies selected Joffrey Lauvergne with the 55th pick in the NBA Draft. Lauvergne night didn’t end there, and he was included in a trade that sent him and Darrell Aruther to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Kosta Koufos.
The trade gives the Grizzlies Koufos, who fell out of favor in Denver when George Karl was let go. He will most likely see a lot of the bench, as he will be behind Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol.
What it does, though, is add depth to the Grizzlies big men position. The Grizzlies lose Arthur, but don’t lose anything big. Arthur was more of a role player for the team, and is easily replaceable as he wasn’t a long-term solution for the team. Now the Grizzlies at least have another center to jump in if an injury happens to their top frontcourt players.
Koufos was no longer needed in Denver, and he took a lot of heat because Karl played him over JaVele McGee. The team’s new head coach clearly didn’t see him in the future plans for the Nuggets, and he was dealt away for it.
I’m unsure how exactly Koufos will fit in with the Grizzlies, but looking from the other side, the Nuggets did get a good player in return in Lauvergne. He will add more size to the team and should pair well with McGee on the floor.
In the end, both teams got some nice upgrades, and adding depth to a team is never a bad thing.
