2013 NBA Draft: Orlando Magic Makes Smart Selection With Romero Osby
The second pick of Oladipo was clearly designed for the Magic, who had the NBA’s worst record last season, to shore up their perimeter game. The 51st pick took on some different meaning with power forward Romero Osby from Oklahoma.
He’s expected to give help to the Magic inside, perhaps right away. The Magic obviously needed to bring in some new talent, and Osby might wind up to play a key role for the team. The Orlando coaches and front office did their homework very well in make this selection. Second-round picks don’t usually mean much, but it this case, the Magic might have struck some gold.
The Magic have made no secret that they are in a youth movement and Osby fills a major need with his abilities.
He’s 6-foot-8, 232 pounds, and will bring some of the toughness that the Magic sorely needs inside. He transferred to Oklahoma after two season and had an excellent senior campaign, averaging 16 points and seven rebounds. He was 9-of-17 in 3-point area and does not do much with the 3-pointer.
Defensively, Osby is suspect and is a project that the Magic will have to work on in the near future. Considering he was the No. 51 draft pick, Osby was a good one and could be a surprising player in the near future for Orlando.
