2013 NBA Free Agency: Andre Iguodala Would Be Foolish to Sign With the Sacramento Kings

Andre Iguodala has a busy week in front of him. After opting out of the final year of his contract with the Denver Nuggets, he will now meet with several teams and begin mulling his decision on where he will play next season.

According to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports, Iguodala will be meeting with the Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, New Orleans Pelicans, Atlanta Hawks, Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings.

The Kings will get their visit tonight.

Iguodala would undoubtedly make the Kings a much better team, specifically defensively. If they could somehow pair him up with Ben McLemore and DeMarcus Cousins, their team would already be lightyears ahead of where they were last year.

This coming season, Iguodala would have made $16 million had he stayed with the Nuggets. This tells you what kind of money he will demand, and apparently he could get that type of deal with so many teams in line for his services.

If Iguodala is smart, he politely declines the Kings’ offer. With teams like the Warriors or potentially the Hawks who have a lot of space to sign some great talent, Iguodala could choose a much better option. Heck, even the Pelicans could be interesting if he joined Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday, among others the Pelicans are going after.

Sacramento is doing whatever they can to make some noise in free agency, and I understand that. They need to. Their sorry excuse for a season last year was hard to watch. It’s not a bad idea going after Iguodala, it’s just not likely to happen considering his other options.
