The free agency period has begun in the NBA and teams are already meeting with potential signings as we speak. From the get-go, the New Orleans Pelicans were said to be heavily interested in free agent guard Tyreke Evans.
League source confirm the Pelicans have a scheduled meeting with Sacramento Kings free agent SG Tyreke Evans just after 11 (CST) tonight.

According to Pelicans beat writer John Reid, the Pelicans have discussed a couple of different routes to get this deal done. Of course the first route would be simply signing Evans to a contract. But, that leaves the issue of Evans then competing for time with Eric Gordon.
Gordon is a guy the Pelicans have wanted to move even as far back as last year’s trade deadline. Thus, a move that has been discussed and could make sense for both teams is to do a sign-and-trade type of deal.
Not only could Gordon be swapped for Evans in this scenario, but another name that has been thrown out there is point guard Greivis Vasquez. The Pelicans could likely move Vasquez this summer as well after trading for former Philadelphia 76ers point guard Jrue Holiday.
In any event, the Pelicans remain interested in Evans and would like nothing more than to get a deal done as soon as possible. New Orleans figures to be a somewhat underrated player in free agency this year and are also interested in free agent swing man Andre Iguodala.
Could the Pelicans get their hands on both Evans and Iguodala? That would certainly give them an interesting roster along with Holiday running point and Anthony Davis down low. Whatever happens, the Pelicans going to make sure their franchise makes a splash and that could start shortly with a deal involving Evans.
