2013 NBA Free Agency Rumors: Milwaukee Bucks, O.J. Mayo Finalizing What Should Be a Ridiculous Contract

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

After losing two of their better perimeter scorers, the Milwaukee Bucks are frantically looking for help. Dealing J.J. Redick to the Los Angeles Clippers and letting go of Mike Dunleavy Jr. to the Chicago Bulls takes a toll on their wing rotation and scoring as a whole.

Milwaukee is said to be finalizing a deal, however, with one of the more notable names on the market this summer. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, O.J. Mayo could be a Buck very soon:

Mayo would probably win the award for NBA’s highest overpaid free agent if there was such thing — at least that’s what the feeling is. Tiago Splitter and Martell Webster may give him a run for his money, but Mayo would take the cake when it’s all said and done.

Don’t get me wrong. Mayo is a good player, but he’s not great. He seems to have this mantra about him that calls for more money than he’s worth, and the Bucks of all teams would be the ones to give it to him.

Mayo can score, but can he score like he should be able to with his potential? Not yet.

Since entering the league, Mayo has been somewhat of a disappointment comparatively speaking. The expectations for Mayo coming into the NBA were that he would be one of the premier scorers in the league, and he has been nothing but streaky and inconsistent for the most part.

I hate to say it, but it sounds perfect for Milwaukee. They’re the team looking to give Brandon Jennings — another highly overrated player, I might add — a deal he doesn’t deserve. Why not potentially make it two ridiculous contracts in one offseason?
