Boston Celtics Pull Off Amazing Hire of Brad Stevens as New Head Coach

The NBA has seen plenty of shocking head coaching moves this offseason, but the latest move by the Boston Celtics may take the cake as they have found their new replacement for Doc Rivers–former Butler head coach Brad Stevens.

The Celtics have reportedly reached an agreement with Stevens–who will become the 17th head coach in franchise history. When looking at what Stevens has done for the Butler program over the last couple of years, it seemed like he was a lock to stay with the Bulldogs considering how many different schools he turned down after leading the team to back-to-back National Championship appearances in 2010 and 2011.

Now, it will be interesting to see how Stevens does making the transition from the college level to the NBA as he will certainly have his work cut out with a Celtics team expected to go through rebuilding mode over the next couple of seasons after shipping Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett out to the Brooklyn Nets. Stevens has spent the last six seasons at Butler and has received heavy praise for his ability as a head coach–so this is an excellent move on Boston’s end.

Of course, as we’ve seen in the past, it’s never the easiest thing in the world for college coaches to find similar success at the NBA level–so it will certainly be interesting to see how things play out for Stevens during his first season as head coach with the Celtics.
