The San Antonio Spurs are fresh off one of their best seasons in franchise history, and that is saying something considering how successful they have been over the last 15 years. The season ended on a disappointing note as they lost in the NBA Finals to the Miami Heat, a series most people felt the Spurs should have won.
The organization has never been extremely active in free agency, but one player outside the franchise that they reportedly, according to the San Antonio Express, are interested in is former Atlanta Hawks guard Kyle Korver, who has been around the block and is looking for one last sizable contract at age 32.
Korver is widely considered one of the best jump shooters in the league. He has a great ability teams covet, and that is outside shooting. His presence alone on the perimeter holds opposing defenses accountable.
It remains to be seen how great of a fit this would be between Korver and the Spurs. Every team could use as much outside shooting as possible, but the Spurs are currently doing well in that department. They have Danny Green under contract and expect to have Gary Neal for next season as well. Green proved his worth in the Finals as he displayed tremendous outside shooting and almost single handedly helped the Spurs win the title. Neal was also tremendous as well in a reserve role.
Korver is a great shooter and would help out a lot of teams, but the Spurs probably are not one of them. They should allocate their financial resources to signing a backup point guard and more depth in the front court.
