The announcement that the NBA world has been waiting for has finally happened, so here it is: Dwight Howard is reportedly a member of the Houston Rockets. After waffling his way through the first week of NBA free agency, Howard has finally made his decision and it was seen from a mile away. Houston was the front runner all along, but DH12 going to Texas means that one free agent is going to follow him.
My guess is that Josh Smith will decide to sign with Rockets within the next week.
Considering the duo played AUU Basketball together, it’s almost a given that the two have been coordinating this move for months — if not years! Similar to the Miami Heat, the Rockets are set to have a “Big 3″ in 2013-14. If this mega team is assembled, James Harden combining with Howard and Smith would make one of the best trios in league history. However, the Dallas Mavericks are a team that has shown interest in Smith and after losing out on No. 12, the Mavs could swipe Smith and call it a draw.
Keep in mind that early reports indicated that Howard would only go to Houston if they agreed to also sign another top-notch free agent — Smith seems like the odds-on favorite to partner up with Harden and Howard in the Lone Star State.
