New York Knicks Rumors: Could Carmelo Anthony Really Skip Town Next Season?
This year’s NBA offseason is much less important than next year’s. Next year, there will be some big-name free agents out there who a lot of teams will have their eyes on. One player that could be a big-name free agent next season is New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony. With Anthony becoming a free agent and probably wanting a max contract, there is a possibility that he could skip town and head west.
Where in the west, you might ask? Well, rumor has it that Anthony could end up signing with the Los Angeles Lakers this time next year, and the fit for Anthony in Southern California would be perfect.
First, Anthony’s wife, La La Vazquez, spends a majority of her time in Hollywood, and if Anthony eventually wanted to marry Vazquez, both could settle down right there in Los Angeles. Also, Kobe Bryant will have a lot of influence in who the Lakers sign next season. Losing Dwight Howard opens up a lot of options for the franchise. Bryant has also previously stated that he would love having Anthony as a teammate.
New York has its first crack at getting Anthony to sign a contract extension in February, but with Anthony’s first chance at free agency coming up, he probably will not want to waste it. There is a good chance the Lakers push for Anthony, and they may even have to get a new head coach after next season if Mike D’Antoni still does not pan out.
One thing is for sure, if Anthony does leave, he will be leaving a lot of Knicks fans with broken hearts.
