The Boston Celtics trade with the Brooklyn Nets became official on Friday morning and in turn, the organization reached out to their local media to thank their two former stars who are now switching locations.
The Celtics took out a full page advertisement in the Boston Globe to thank both Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett for their multiple years of service to the organization, a stretch that also included one NBA Championship. Garnett and Pierce, alongside Jason Terry, were shipped south from Boston to Brooklyn just last month as part of a deal that allows the Celtics to formally begin their rebuilding process. While Boston fans are understanding of the move and what it means for the potential and future of the organization, it’s one that is still tough to swallow, regardless.
Pierce played his entire NBA career with the Celtics, becoming one of the best players in franchise history — and that says a lot given Boston’s all-time success as an organization. As for Garnett, well, it was his high energy and passion that brought this Boston team together, especially during their NBA Championship run back in 2008.
Here’s a look at the full page ad that ran in Friday’s Boston Globe:
Both Pierce and Garnett will have their shot at another NBA title next season, as the Nets have made considerable strides in improving this off-season. While Boston had to part with both of their superstars, there’s no doubt that they will always bleed green.
