The Orlando Magic are clearly an NBA team on the rebound from Dwight Howard leaving and that is trying to rebuild in the aftermath of his departure. They have some solid young pieces with players like Tobias Harris, Nikola Vucevic and rookie guard Victor Oladipo, but they are clearly still looking forward to the 2014 NBA Draft.
In light of that, the Magic haven’t been incredibly active in free-agency. More or less, they are simply looking to develop the young players that they have in place, end up in the bottom of the standings this season, and then add another terrific young player for their future.
However, they still have a roster and depth chart to fill out, so they have to make a few signings here and there. The latest of those, according to the Orlando Sentinel’s Josh Robbins, is the Magic’s signing of free-agent point guard Ronnie Price.
Last season, the eight-year veteran Price spent the year with the Portland Trail Blazers and was part of their league-worst bench. In 39 games played, he averaged just 13.1 minutes per game and only put up 2.7 points, 1.9 assists and 1.1 rebounds per game and shot an abysmal 32.5 percent from the field and 25.6 percent from long-range.
For his career, Price has played in 394 NBA games and played just 11.6 minutes per game. He also averaged only 3.5 points, 1.4 assists and 1.1 rebounds on 38.3 percent shooting and 30 percent three-point shooting.
It’s pretty clear that Price isn’t going to be a difference-maker with the Magic. More or less, Price is simply a player that can come in as a place-holder until they can build a more promising core group of players and keep building.
