Sacramento Kings: DeMarcus Cousins Waiting on Shaq to Fulfill Pledge

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The problem child has a problem, and, funny enough it’s not up to him to solve it this time.

Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins is waiting on legendary NBA center Shaquille O’Neal to fulfill a pledge made to the team owner last month. Shaq told Viverk Ranadive that he would help make Cousins “the best big man in the game.”

Cousins has expressed his desire to be the best center in the league, but up to this point hasn’t shown the maturity necessary to get it done. Working with Shaq could definitely help that matter to some extend, though Shaq is somewhat of a joker himself. While he may be a joker, he’s not an idiot.

According to Sports World Report, Cousins recently said “I have not heard from Shaq at all. Not a tweet, DM (direct message), nothing” in regards to the pledge made by Shaq.

Cousins would benefit in a big way from working with a guy like O’Neal, who is widely considered the most dominant big man the league has ever seen. He has career averages of 16.3 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals and has never had an issue staying healthy.

The former Kentucky big man has missed more games due to being suspended than he has from injury during his three year career. The Kings definitely need him focused for the 2013 season if they are to do anything even remotely competitive in the Western Conference.

Let’s hope that Shaq comes through on his end of the deal and that Cousins can prove his maturity in 2013.
