Terrence Jones Rockets arrested

The Houston Rockets have had one of the most productive off-seasons of any team in the NBA. They landed a solid veteran leader recently in Marcus Camby, quietly signed underappreciated guard Reggie Williams, and, of course, signed the biggest free-agent on the market this summer, Dwight Howard.

However, the Rockets have now caught their first really bad press of the summer, courtesy of power forward Terrence Jones.

According to a report from the Associated Press, Jones was walking down the street near a club in Portland early on Wednesday morning when a police officer saw the Rockets forward yell “Wake Up!” at a homeless man and then proceed to kick the man in the leg. Jones was then arrested and later released on his own recognizance.

Jones is coming off an impressive showing at the Las Vegas Summer League where he averaged 15.8 points, seven rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.3 blocks in 27.5 minutes per game. He shot only 42.2 percent from the floor, but showed a solid ability on the boards and really carried the Rockets at times in Summer League offensively.

Jones played in just 19 games for the Rockets last season, averaging just 5.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and one block in 14.5 minutes per game while shooting 45.7 percent from the floor. Despite his minimal role last season, though, Jones was expected to compete with several other player, including Greg Smith and Donatas Motiejunas for the starting power forward spot.

However, it would be surprising if this bit of bad press for Jones and the Rockets didn’t force this relationship to end in the near future. Jones is a young player with a decent amount of potential, but he’s also not worth this kind of negative press. In the end, this was a poor judgment call on the part of Jones and it may cost him his role with Houston.

Harden, Wade Ice Game For Their Team in Final Min

Two of the best shooting (if not the two best) guards in the game both put their clutch gene on display last night. Within a few minutes of each other, Dwyane Wade and then James Harden both hit step-back jumpers in the final minute of the 4th quarter that iced the game for their team.

Josh Smith Fakes Dirk Nowitzki Out of His Shoes

Josh Smith has returned to the Houston Rockets via trade, and he made the most of his first game back. He scored 16 points off the bench, including this drive on Dirk Nowitzki that made Smith look like Hakeem Olajuwon. Could Ty Lawson and Josh Smith be the spark duo off the bench that rejuvenates this Rockets team?
