Chicago Bulls Need To Take Mentality of Jimmy Butler Into 2013-2014 Season
The Chicago Bulls made it to the second round of the 2013 NBA Playoffs last year where they gave the now back-to-back champion Miami Heat an enormous fight, though it was ultimately unsuccessful. However, the expectations are much higher heading into the 2013-2014 NBA season as the Bulls are anxiously awaiting the return of their superstar point guard, Derrick Rose.
The return of Rose along with the signing of Mike Dunleavy and the arrival of rookie Tony Snell should put the Bulls in a place where they can contend with their developing rival, the Heat. However, talent alone won’t get the Bulls past the two-time defending champs. This Chicago team has to come into the season with the right mentality.
Luckily for them, one of their own players has shown them what the right attitude that they need to have is. In an interview this past Tuesday on ESPN Chicago 1000’s “The Waddle and Silvy Show,” young stud Jimmy Butler said of the Heat and the rivalry, “It’s not just us, it’s the city. That rivalry, it’s crazy. They’re back-to-back champions and when you think three-peat, you think Chicago, so we can’t let that happen.”
Though Butler is one of the young stars on this team, he’s personifying the mentality that the Bulls have to possess coming into this year. They have to take pride in the tradition of their city and in themselves.
This is a team that already has an air of toughness around them because of their gritty and defensive-minded style of play. If they pair that with confidence and pride that Butler says their squad needs to have, they can definitely make some noise this season and possibly get past their rivals.
