The San Antonio Spurs were one win away from collecting another NBA Championship last season. It certainly was a tough pill to swallow to go home empty handed. However, shooting guard Danny Green believes the Spurs will use the loss in the NBA Finals as motivation to come back stronger than ever next season.

“I think it will definitely serve as motivation for me and everybody on the team,” Green said during a question and answer with fans on Spurs.com. “Just like the previous year when we lost to (the Oklahoma City Thunder), everyone is going to have a chip on their shoulder. We know how close we were and we let it slip away and we’re going to come back – stronger, better, more experienced. You don’t know how many chances you’re ever going to get at it, so we’re going to take advantage of what we experienced and I’m going to work on things to do better to help my team be where we want to be.”

The Spurs would certainly like to see Green step his game up in 2013-14. The 26-year-old did not have a bad performance by any means last season. With that being said, he certainly could have been more productive.

The fourth-year player averaged 10.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 27.5 minutes per game. He also shot 44.8 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from beyond the arc in 80 starts. His numbers did improve during the postseason, which is exactly what every franchise wants to see from their players. He averaged 11.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 31.9 minutes per game. He converted career-high shooting percentages from the floor (44.6) and from 3-point range (48.2).

If Green can build off his performance from last season in which he had already stepped up his game from previous years, San Antonio should have no problem making noise in the Western Conference once again.
