The Denver Nuggets have not had the offseason they may have hoped for. Losing two very important wing players in Andre Iguodala and Corey Brewer to free agency will definitely hurt in the coming season, and now they look to have some trouble heating up with point guard Ty Lawson.
About a week ago, Lawson was arrested at his home following a fight with his girlfriend, Ashley Pettiford. Actually, both Lawson and Pettiford were arrested in what was called a “mutual” conflict.
Pettiford was said to have heard Lawson on the phone with another woman and in the end dismantled his phone. Lawson pushed her when she got upset and began packing her belongings as if she was leaving.
There’s one small factor that makes this situation a bit more interesting: Pettiford is pregnant. So, yes, Lawson allegedly had a physical altercation with his pregnant girlfriend in what is being called a case of domestic violence.
The prosecutors have asked for a postponement on the hearing in order to do more research on the incident. They got their wish as the hearing has been delayed until September.
Again, Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson is labeling the incident “a mutual situation,” making it a little harder to truly investigate the happenings that took place.
Let’s hope that in the end this is a big misunderstanding, and Lawson does not become a distraction to his team as they will be leaning on him more than ever this year. Lawson is an emerging star in the league and has continued to improve throughout his career.
