Will Chris Douglas-Roberts Finally Make The Los Angeles Lakers In 2013?
After losing three small forwards in 2012, the Los Angeles Lakers have been completely depleted at the position. The Lakers signed three players for the position, but is it enough? Will the Lakers sign another with Mike D’Antoni’s preference to go small?
This year, Chris Douglas-Roberts has a good chance to make the team. After averaging 7.8 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game during Summer League, Douglas-Roberts might finally find a roster spot. His ability to score the ball is his biggest strength, and with Kobe Bryant’s injury, he could be a valuable option.
Douglas-Roberts has played with the Lakers preseason squad on multiple occasions, and he hasn’t been able to secure a spot. However, things could change for Douglas-Roberts. He hasn’t had a lot of success in the NBA, but he could thrive with the Lakers. Douglas-Roberts is most comfortable in L.A., with his longtime friend Bryant.
“At this point, I don’t have any ego anymore,” he said Wednesday night, after a practice with the Lakers’ summer league team. “I have to pay these dues, wherever they are. If they’re in summer league, whatever, I have to pay these dues.”
His work ethic is something that keeps him going, even though he hasn’t been able to find a home in the NBA. His no quit attitude is something that him and Bryant have in common. If Douglas-Roberts can impress the Lakers’ coaching staff during training camp and preseason, I don’t see why Douglas-Roberts wouldn’t be suiting up for the Lakers.
