Memphis Grizzlies Rumors: Zach Randolph Would Welcome Lamar Odom to Team
It’s pretty clear at this point that free-agent forward Lamar Odom has a lot more on his plate than what team he is going to sign with for the 2013-2014 NBA season. The recent reports of Odom’s drug use are troubling and highlight the necessity for Odom to get his personal life in order before he even thinks about playing the game of basketball.
Despite that, some people still haven’t stopped speculating about Odom’s return to basketball and what team he will land with. There have been reports that the Los Angeles Clippers, who Odom played with last season, are out on signing Odom at this time. However, Memphis Grizzlies power forward offered up his thoughts on his team signing Odom.
TMZ, the company that first reported Odom’s problems with drugs, spoke to Z-Bo outside of Los Angeles’ Emerson Theatre. In their run-in, they asked Randolph if he would want Odom on his team if Odom “can get his life back in order.” Randolph replied, “Damn right. He’s a good dude.”
As we still don’t know full details about what’s going on with Odom and what the severity of his problems are at this point, Memphis seems like it could be a great place for him to find new life, both as a person and as a player in the NBA. Coincidentally, Randolph is living proof of the changes that Memphis can bring.
Before coming to the Grizzlies, Randolph seemed to always be having trouble with the law or with his behavior as an NBA player. Once he came to Memphis, though, Randolph reinvented himself in the small-market as a hard-working guy and really became one of the faces of the franchise.
At 33 years old, it’s hard to imagine Odom becoming the face of the Grizzlies, but there’s no reason to believe he can’t re-invent himself. Memphis is a town that will take him out of the Los Angeles spotlight and the Grizzlies are a team that can mentor him and help get his life and career moving in a positive direction. There’s a ways to go before Odom should be ready to sign anywhere, but Memphis seems like the perfect place for him to land.
