Los Angeles Lakers Could Save Lamar Odom

Lamar Odom

It appears the Los Angeles Lakers might be willing to give Lamar Odom a chance to make their roster, but only if he’s willing to attend rehab. That’s the latest word on the trouble forward, who of course has been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately.

Odom is reportedly addicted to crack cocaine and he even went missing for a few days on what was likely a drug binge this past week. These latest reports are helping fans understand why the veteran hasn’t been himself over the past two seasons. His stint in Dallas was an absolute atrocity and he didn’t come close to playing up to his potential a year ago as a member of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Now, he’s likely down to his final chance. Lucky for him, he’s getting it from the team that he used to love playing for. I think it’s pretty clear that his departure from the Lakers was a turning point in his career. He was said to be distraught over the teams’ decision to trade him and it was likely one of the main contributing factors to his downward spiral.

But he can’t change the past. All he can do now is move forward. That’s going to start with cleaning up and getting sober. Life problems come before basketball problems, so he has to get his mind right before he can even entertain the thought of playing for the Lakers again. But at the same time, I’m hoping it’s the motivation he needs to turn his life around. If he can, the Lakers could surely use his help.
