Orlando Magic 2013 Player Profile: Kyle O'Quinn

Kyle O’Quinn is only in his second season, and he’s the type of player the Orlando Magic hope will mature and develop into a capable NBA player to give their current youth movement plenty of credibility.

O’Quinn showed occasional flashes a year ago of developing into a reliable NBA player. He just needs more minutes. His best game came when he saw 42 minutes of action in late March in a 114-108 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats. O’Quinn couldn’t miss in that game with 11-of-14 in shooting for 23 points and 11 rebounds. The 6-foot-10 forward showed what he could do when he gets the minutes and faces an inconsistent defense.

For the season, O’Quinn averaged 4.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in 11.2 minutes per game. He played in 57 games and started five times, shootinh 51.3 percent from the floor. He’s not going to be given free minutes considering the Magic have strengthened their roster and are looking at O’Quinn to upgrade all facets of his game in order to earn more playing minutes.

O’Quinn is a reliable shooter and became a decent rebounder for the Magic. He is looking to be a strong force in the middle to clog up the paint against the opposition. If he can show the Magic that he can do this things, he’s going to be a solid defensive player whenever he’s in the lineup.
