Lebron James: The Announcement Part II, coming soon from ESPN…
While I don’t see another Lebron special coming, it looks like we’ve already begun the countdown to the summer of 2014 and James’ impending potential free agency. Don’t worry NBA fans, we only have 10 months left to go.
The league’s best player started the speculation by making this comment on his future:
“I have absolutely no idea. I would love to spend the rest of my career in Miami with this great team and great organization as we continue to compete for championships. That’s ideal. But we don’t know what may happen from now to the end of the season. That’s the nature of the business. It’s the nature of not knowing what tomorrow brings.”
I appreciate Lebron’s honesty here, because the NBA is a business and anything can happen – but why couldn’t he just say that he will stay in Miami? But no, he left the door open for the possibility of an exit and now everyone is going to run wild with it.
It’s already been speculated about for awhile now that James will leave the Heat next summer when he has the opportunity to opt out of his contract, but now there’s been fuel dumped on the fire by the superstar himself. Great, grand, wonderful…
Lebron says he’s going to stay focused on trying to win a three-peat with his current team, but the summer of 2014 will constantly plague the Heat this entire season. It’s a shame that’s the sports world we live in, but basketball fans should be prepared for non-stop chatter from this point forward.
