The Brooklyn Nets have added a ton of talent this off-season, which is no secret to anyone that remotely keeps up with the goings on in the NBA. Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Andrei Kirilenko and Jason Terry will all don Nets black and white this season. However, their new additions aren’t the biggest keys to any success they will have in the upcoming season.

Much of the weight of Brooklyn’s season will fall onto point guard Deron Williams. As Brooklyn underwhelmed the masses last season, Williams was largely looked upon as a scapegoat, especially considering his extremely slow start to the year. In the 50 games prior to the All-Star break, he averaged just 16.7 points and 7.6 assists per game while shooting 41.3 percent from the floor and just 34.7 percent from three, though he did pick it up after the season.

Things are already off to a shaky start for Williams coming into this season, though. According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, Williams sprained his ankle a couple of weeks ago and is taking his recovery slowly, which puts whether or not he will be ready for training camp into question.

Despite nursing his ankle and going to get another MRI on it soon, Williams is still out and about, taking part in a dodgeball tournament on Thursday night. While live-tweeting the event, Williams decided that it was an opportune time to take a shot at the New York Knicks, their budding rivals, when he sent out a tweet that said, “Down to the semi-finals! If you’re a Knicks fan, google what that means.” That tweet has since been deleted.

Zing!

If Williams can maximize his talent that we all know is there this season, he will be able to help the Nets back up their trash talk. For the Nets sake and for the sake of people that like watching good basketball, let’s hope these ankle injuries don’t continue to pop up throughout this season.
