What has Dirk Nowitzki been up to during the NBA offseason? This Dallas Mavericks forward has been involved in other sports aside from basketball, namely baseball and soccer. He also has made his share of appearances on YouTube videos, including singing “Celebration” by the Rolling Stones, but we would not want him to quit his day (and prime time) job. Plus, he and his wife, Jessica Olsson, celebrated their first wedding anniversary on July 20, and welcomed their baby girl into the world four days later. Needless to say, “#41,” who just turned the big 3-5 on June 19, had a slam dunk summer and has not skipped a beat since.
The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation and the Heroes Foundation — both of which benefit the youth — held their Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game on June 29, in Frisco, TX. The superstar roster ranged from past and present members of the Mavericks’ franchise, including former players Michael Finley and Jason Terry, and owner Mark Cuban, to former NFL and IFL wide receiver Terrell Owens. Cuban should bring Owens back to DFW by reserving him a spot on their squad.
When joining the “Nowitzki All-Stars” charity soccer team in Germany, Nowitzki was notorious for flopping, which may dismay the NBA. This month, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) also appointed Nowitzki to represent his native country as a goodwill ambassador.
Clearly, the addition to Nowitzki’s family must be his highlight of 2013. Welcome to fatherhood, proud papa power forward! Hopefully, Nowitzki’s transition into parenting does not slow down his hustle on the hardwood, and Mavs fans look forward to seeing his daughter cheer for him courtside.
We admire the basketball star’s activity in other sports and eagerly await his his presence on the court again.
