Should Indiana Pacers’ Danny Granger Be Excited About Luis Scola?
The Indiana Pacers have had quite the offseason, roping in C.J. Watson, Chris Copeland and Luis Scola, majorly improving the bench from last season. The Pacers will also have Danny Granger back on the court after missing all but five games last season. Granger said he is encouraged to have all the new guys around, but seemed most excited about Scola.
“I think (Scola’s) probably our biggest free agent pickup. In my mind, he’s a starting power forward in the NBA and I don’t know how we pulled him off and how we got him but we did.” Granger told Scott Agness of Pacers.com.
Granger is exactly right about Scola, and it is pretty obvious why he is happy about adding him to the squad. Scola has averaged 14.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game over his career, which could pass as starters numbers in my opinion. The scariest thing is that he will be backing up the beastly David West. West and Scola is undoubtedly one of the best — if not the best — power forward rotation in the league.
As for the other additions, they aren’t too bad either. Watson is an experienced point guard who is a major improvement over D.J. Augustin from last season, and Copeland is a big scoring threat who put up 8.7 points per game off the bench for the New York Knicks last season.
Indiana has shown they can hang around with the large market teams of the NBA, but now, they are building a team that can beat them.
