Small forward Danilo Gallinari was one of the more productive players for the Denver Nuggets this past year, which is why it was difficult when he tore his meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament at the end of the season. The good news is he has made tremendous progress in his rehabilitation. With that being said, will he be ready for the when the Nuggets begin training camp?

“We don’t have a set date for when Danilo is ready to return,” Lee Melchionni, Gallinari’s agent, told the Denver Post. “When he gets cleared by doctors, I think we will cross that bridge when it comes, but we don’t have a specific date or month or timetable in our heads right now. It’s more just him being 100 percent healthy, ready to go and feeling comfortable going out there and getting back on the court.”

The Nuggets are more optimistic that Gallinari will be able to return sooner than expected. It has been reported that he will show up at training camp on time. However, he will not be able to take part in any team activities. Instead, he will continue the rehabilitation with the Nuggets.

The 24-year-old ranked second on the team with 16.2 points per game behind only Ty Lawson (16.7 ppg).  He averaged 5.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest, while he converted 41.8 percent of his 12.3 field goal attempts in 71 starts. Gallinari shot 37.3 percent from beyond the arc, which was good for third on the team. However, guards Wilson Chandler (41.3 percent) and Evan Fournier (40.7 percent) did not attempt close to Gallinari’s 5.1 three-point field goal attempts per game.

Obviously, Gallinari is a huge part of the offense in the upcoming season. Therefore, it is encouraging to hear that he is making great progress in getting back to being 100 percent. Hopefully, the rehabilitation time will not take away from his ability to play at a high level in 2013-14.
