What Can San Antonio Spurs Expect From Tim Duncan In 2013-14?
It was certainly quite impressive that San Antonio Spurs power forward Tim Duncan was able to have one of his best seasons in the last several years at the age of 37 years old. There is no question San Antonio would not have reached the NBA Finals in 2012-13 if it were not for his very productive season. With that being said, what can the Spurs expect from Duncan in 2013-14?
Obviously, age means nothing to Duncan, who continues to perform at a high level despite being the sixth oldest player in the league. His 17.8 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 30.1 minutes per game far exceeded all expectations within the organization.
Duncan’s top-notch performance has spoiled the Spurs in the sense that they have become accustomed to how a power forward plays the game. Hopefully, San Antonio does not expect a similar performance from the veteran this season. That is not to say Duncan is incapable of putting up close to the same numbers. However, it is certainly something that cannot be expected considering he will be 38 years old before the season ends.
It obviously is unfair for San Antonio to expect a lot from Duncan considering everything he has done for the organization since his arrival in 1997. With that being said, he does not want to ride off into the sunset without one more ring. And to be so close last season only to come away with nothing just will not do. Nobody should be surprised to see 16-year player dominate the position once again while being a staple of the offense.
