Kevin Love, Derrick Williams Show Off Improved Frame at Minnesota Timberwolves Media Day
With Kevin Love missing almost all of the 2012-2013 NBA season for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Derrick Williams had the prime opportunity to finally step up and show his true value as a former number-two overall pick in this league. However, he never seemed to take that next step forward and settled into mediocrity once again.
Love is now back healthy and ready to help lead an improved Wolves team to the playoffs for the first time since 2004. As the star power forward comes back to the lineup with high expectations, Williams doesn’t want to get lost in the shuffle. Both players showed at Minnesota’s media day that they are committed to making an impact this season for the Wolves.
As seen in the above picture and as reported by ESPN, Love showed up to media day looking much lighter and more chiseled. With him not playing last season, there could be potential worries about him getting back into game shape, but after seeing him on Monday, it feels safe to say that there shouldn’t be anyone worrying about that at all.
Williams also had noticeably dropped weight. As reported by Derek James of Hardwood Paroxysm, Rufus on Fire and Howlin’ TWolf, Williams has dropped down to 235 pounds heading into camp, much lighter and fitter than the 250 pounds that he played at last season.
The notable thing about Williams’ weight loss could be that he is gearing up to play more at the three this season, something that has been discussed by the Wolves this off-season. With Williams lighter, he should be able to be quicker in attacking the rim, where he’s at his most effective.
With the additions that the Wolves made this off-season, they already had put themselves in the playoff hunt. However, with the players showing this kind of commitment to getting into great shape to help them be better in their respective roles, the confidence level among the Wolves and their fans should be higher than ever before.
