Even with the 2014 NBA Free Agency period still nine months away, the media has been hounding the entire Miami Heat organization hoping to get a clue as to where the LeBron James could potentially end up. Every syllable that has come out of James’s mouth since winning his second title with the Heat has turned into a small piece of the 2014 Free Agency puzzle.
According to ESPN, James has decided to tune out the media’s questions concerning his decision next summer.
“You guys have to ask the questions,” James said. “But I’m not going to address it. Once we get to that point (in June), then I’ll address it. But I don’t think it’s appropriate right now. My concern is putting our team in a position to win another championship. That’s my only goal, that’s my only mind-frame right now.”(ESPN, Wallace)
This is an extremely mature statement from James. This might not be what sports media wants to hear, especially since the self proclaimed King is one of the most celebrated sports players on the planet, but his decision to remain quiet this season will allow him to focus on the arduous season at hand. Winning a third title won’t be easy, but it will be more difficult due to it being a three-peat.
James wants to be known as the G.O.A.T. A third championship could help cement that legacy, but in order to survive this season, absolute focus and determination will be needed. By shutting out the media’s free agency related questions, James is already taking a step in the right direction.
