The Toronto Raptors will face off against the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight in the team’s second preseason game. The Raptors got their campaign off to a winning start on Monday night as they beat the Boston Celtics 97-89 at the TD Garden.
Raptors fans may get to see their first glimpse of Steve Novak, brought in from the New York Knicks as part of the Andrea Bargnani trade back in July. Novak gives the Raptors some much needed depth from the 3-point arc. The Timberwolves started their season with a loss to CSKA Moscow of Russia 108-106, at Target Center.
Derick Williams was the top scorer with 21 points and added nine rebounds in an impressive performance for the second-year player. Williams will likely come off the bench this season with the return of franchise player Kevin Love.
Love returns to the starting lineup after a season plagued with hand injuries. With the sixth-year player in the lineup everyday, Rick Adelman‘s Timberwolves immediately become a playoff caliber team. With the likes of Ricky Rubio, Kevin Martin and Nikola Peckovic to support Love, expect Minnesota to post a record north of .500 at the end of the season.
The night will also see Casey face off against his former team. The third-year Raptors head coach is 3-0 against his former team since moving to Canada, including a double sweep last season.
On top of two pre-season matchups, the two sides will also play home and away against each other in the regular season. The Raptors will host on January 17, with the return match coming from Minnesota on March 9.
