Kris Joseph falls into that category of players that have received a training camp invitation with an outside chance of making the team.
Joseph is getting a shot by the Orlando Magic to see if he might add into their youth movement. He came off a great career at Syracuse University but never quite caught the right eye in the NBA. He’s hoping to catch many eyes with the Magic after he saw action in 10 NBA games last season between the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets. He was unable to play in the NBA Summer Leagues, which might hurt his chances of making a roster.
Joseph obviously needs to have a strong preseason for the Magic to win a roster spot. When he came to the NBA last season, the report on Joseph was that he had improved every season. As a 6-foot-7 forward, his strengths are that he’s multifaceted, can swish in the mid-range jumpers and is able to find his way to the basket.
One season at Syracuse, Joseph averaged 14.3 points and 5.2 rebounds a game and shot 45.6 percent from the floor. He showed explosiveness in a game against Georgetown when he was 6-of-11 from the floor for 29 points. His attitude and work ethic are also strengths for Joseph. He’s at his best when he quietly gets the job done by piling up the stats when the opponent least expected it. Right now he’s not expected to be to be much of an impact player for the Magic, but Joseph hopes to surprise everyone with a very strong training camp. Orlando is looking for the right mix of young players to make it a better team, and Joseph might be able to get the job done.
