Philadelphia 76ers’ Bench Is The Biggest Question Mark

Tony Wroten

The bench has been a question mark so far. Tony WrotenHollis Thompson and Lavoy Allen have all shown flashes and will probably emerge with the most minutes off the Philadelphia 76ers bench. However, inconsistency is still a factor.

All have been surprise players. Wroten and Thompson surpassed expections so far, while Allen has gotten into basketball shape quickly after suffering a knee injury this summer.

The starting lineup looks like it is set. Spencer HawesThaddeus YoungJames AndersonMichael Carter-Williams and Evan Turner are the starters. Coach Brett Brown will look to win games so he may rely heavily on the five mentioned even if Sixers brass is encouraging Brown and the players to “tank” this season. The only problem with giving them significant minutes is the toll they’ll take from playing 82 games.

Aside from Wroten, Thompson and Allen, the remainder of the bench hasn’t really distinguished themselves. Royce WhiteKhalif WyattDarius Morris and Vander Blue will probably make up the remainder of the roster by season start.

They all showed glimpses of why the Sixers added them to the preseason roster. This bench still resembles a D-League roster.

The Sixers need players like Wyatt and Wroten to step up considering how slim they are at point guard. They will be crucial considering Carter-Williams is a rookie and will need time to develop.

This is still preseason and things can change by the start of the season, but someone must step up otherwise this will be a long season plagued by injuries, low attendance and terrible play.
