For the first time since the season ended back in May, the Dallas Mavericks will play a game on television. Monday’s game against the Orlando Magic will be televised on Channel 21 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Originally, only the final three games of the preseason were scheduled to be on TV, but it was announced last week that the game with the Magic would be the first of the preseason to hit the air waves.
While it is certainly a good thing that the team will finally be televised, it’s a crime that only half of the Mavericks’ preseason will be available for most fans to see. For all the money and connections owner Mark Cuban has, not to mention the television station that he personally owns, it is inexcusable not to make as many games as possible viewable by as many fans as possible.
This holds especially true this year, as most of the players on the Mavericks’ roster are new to the team. Fans that want to get a glimpse of how Monta Ellis, Samuel Dalembert or Jose Calderon(although he’s out with an injury tonight) will mesh with the team have had no option other than to watch the box score online or the limited highlights after the game.
All that being said, it’s still very exciting that fans will be able to watch first hand as some of this season’s storylines begin to unfold. While it’s a shame that we won’t get to see more of the preseason, at least someone is trying to do something about it now by adding a game to the TV schedule. As unlikely as it may be, with any luck maybe the other games will be added as well.
