Rick Adelman Appears Unhappy With Minnesota Timberwolves’ Play in Preseason

The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking to break the NBA’s longest postseason drought this year as they come into the season with high expectations. With another year of development under Ricky Rubio’s belt to go along with Kevin Love, Nikola Pekovic, Kevin Martin and Corey Brewer, the high expectations for the Wolves this season are certainly justified.

However, they haven’t performed all that impressively in the preseason thus far, posting just a 2-2 record through their first four games. In addition to that, Minnesota has lost both games that they’ve played at the Target Center, their home floor. Their play, especially the home losses, isn’t sitting well with head coach Rick Adelman.

In an article from Jerry Zgoda of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Adelman was quoted as saying, “If you’re going to be successful in this league, you better win at home, and we’ve lost two games at home.” That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement from the guy handling the X’s and O’s for the Wolves this season.

Zgoda also reported that Adelman was especially unhappy after the Wolves loss to the Toronto Raptors on Saturday at home. Adelman said that he believed that his team, in essence, wasn’t giving their maximum effort in the contest, which he expressed severe displeasure over.

Adelman’s concerns are legitimate, though, even if it is the preseason. Yes, this Timberwolves team has a ton of talent and has a great chance at making the playoffs for the first time in a decade. However, if they play this season with an air about them like they deserve to make the playoffs instead of playing like a team determined to make the postseason, the results could be wildly disappointing. For this team’s sake, hopefully they answer Adelman’s call to action.
