It didn’t last long but the experiment of Royce White with the Philadelphia 76ers has come to an end even before the season started.

The power forward saw minutes during the preseason but his play was nothing more than average and clearly not what you would expect from a first-round pick. He averaged five points and over four rebounds in five games while committing a lot of fouls and turnovers every time he stepped onto the pitch.

The 76ers made the perfect move waiving White before the start of the season.

Once the deal was made in July this year, it seemed like a nice move for both parties. It was clear that the troubled rookie needed a fresh start after a difficult start to his career with the Houston Rockets and the 76ers seemed like a good fit as the organization were looking to rebuild and look forward to move into better times.

Only a few games were needed, however, to see that this pairing was never going to be effective.

Royce White continued with his anxiety issues as he was unable to travel to Spain for a preseason game and since those issues never seem to get better it was difficult to see him gaining a place in the roster. The lack of commitment towards the Rockets last season could have been a factor as well as Philly probably didn’t wanted to go through the same things that Houston went last year and after seeing his ineffective play on the court, it was set in stone that this deal wasn’t going to last much longer.

Royce White now will have to clear waivers and see if any team wants to pick up his contract, but it seems likely that his NBA career might be heading towards an end before it even started as he hasn’t been able to play in a regular season game so far.
