Anthony Davis took a huge step in his development over this last season, and it was evident at USA’s minicamp. I love the big men who have the mentality of a point guard, and Davis falls into that category. He played guard until a late high school growth spurt caused him to become the defensive menace that he is today. Don’t get me wrong he has worked extremely hard at his craft, but the spurt was an undeniable asset in his development. Shaquille O’Neal is another guy who comes to mind as a big man who always wanted to be a point guard, which we always saw in the All Star game.
“I haven’t taken any time off since I got drafted,” said Davis to Nola.com. “But you’ve got to sacrifice if you want to be great. I want to be a great player in this league, not just a good one or someone that was good for only a few years or so. I want to be one of the guys they talk about for a long time.”
Thanks to the tweet below, which is worth checking out.

My prediction here is that Davis will be an All Star and might even push for third team All NBA this season. Tim Duncan might have another throwback year though, and Lord knows he has probably never been more motivated than he is today. An offseason contemplating not only an ugly divorce but also game 6 of last year’s playoff cannot have been pleasant.
We will have to see if Davis has enough in the tank to get the Pelicans to the playoffs, and they certainly have enough talent to do it. Staying healthy will be tantamount though, and for players like Eric Gordon I want to see them on the floor healthy.
