Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kyrie Irving Needs to Be At His Best in Season Opener against Brooklyn Nets

Much of the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ success this season will lie on the shoulders of their superstar point guard Kyrie Irving.

Despite the fact that the team has some solid complementary pieces for this year like Jarrett Jack, a healthy Anderson Varejao and youngsters Dion Waiters and Tristan Thompson, this team will arguably go as far as Irving can carry them. And if the Cavs are looking to have a positive start to their NBA season, then Uncle Drew needs to bring his A+ game against the Brooklyn Nets.

Cleveland will start the season playing in front of their fans at the Quicken Loans Arena and though they have a tough matchup to start their campaign, they will have chances to pull off the upset if Irving is able to have a solid performance.

The probable absence of Deron Williams in the Nets could give him an advantage in the matchup at both ends of the court. If Williams is fit enough to play, then Irving could turn himself into a facilitator where he would be able to showcase his stellar passing game, feeding his teammates for easy buckets.

Of course, Irving can have an outstanding game, but none of this will work if the other role players aren’t able to step their game up. If there’s one thing certain, however, it is that the Cavaliers definitively have a better chance when Irving is on his game. After several consecutive losing seasons, this could be the breakout year for the young core led by Irving, Waiters and Thompson. Maybe a good start is the only thing the Cavaliers need to start the season on a different note.
