Donnie Nelson Says Dirk Nowitzki Has Worked “Countless and Countless Midnight Hours”

Dirk Nowitzki

Really enjoyed the comments below on power forward Dirk Nowitzki’s work ethic and when I come across things like this that are not only edifying for basketball fans out there, but also people interested in improving their lives. Hard work counts folks.

“All fans see are those two hours on game night,” president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said to Dallas News. “But he’s worked so hard for everything. Those games are a product of countless and countless midnight hours working. “We had a rookie a couple years ago who came in and took one look at Dirk and said. ‘I’ll be in the gym just as much as you are if not more.’ The guys on the staff said, ‘We’ll see.’ It lasted about a week.”

There are few in the league who work as hard as Nowitzki, and thanks to the Dallas News for the excellent piece.

Nelson has not done a fantastic job this year, but hopefully they will make some moves in the next couple years. It could end up being the twilight of Dirk’s career so Nelson should focus on doing the best job possible.

The Mavericks might have one more playoff push left, but it will be interesting to see if Dirk gets another title shot. Most likely if he does, it will not happen in Dallas.
