Despite how poor they looked on opening night, the Chicago Bulls are heading into the NBA season with big expectations. After several seasons of disappointing playoff losses, the Bulls finally have their franchise player back. Derrick Rose, a former MVP, missed over a year with his ACL injury. Now, he’s back and ready to lead the Bulls to the NBA Championship this year.

Rose showed signs of his old self in the first game of the season. He had his trademark explosiveness, taking the ball to the basket with typical reckless abandon. He wasn’t efficient, but his offensive game will return with time. Once he gets used to the speed of the regular season game again, he’ll be the offensive weapon the Bulls need to beat teams.

One thing we know the Bulls can do is play good defense. And especially in the NBA, it really is true that defense wins championships. In the NBA, there is basically no such thing as illegal defense. Chicago is on the cutting edge of the new amorphous NBA defenses. They switch and rotate as a well-oiled unit, keeping opponents from getting easy baskets.

Winning an NBA Championship is never an easy task. The Bulls will need to stay healthy, gel as a team and get Rose back to MVP form just to put themselves in the conversation with the league’s best teams. They have all the pieces to be right there in the end, they just need to remember what made them so good a few years ago.

These are the five reasons why the Chicago Bulls will win the NBA title this year.

3. They Play Great Defense

'Defense wins championships' is a cliche for a reason. It may not be the case in all sports anymore, but it certainly is in the NBA, and the Bulls are one of the best defensive teams in the league.

2. They're Hungy

Sometimes teams need to struggle a little before they are willing to dig deep enough to go all the way. The Bulls lost to the Heat in two of the last three years, and that kind of losing can make a team hungry for revenge.

It's been a few years, but Rose is finally back. And by all accounts, he's better than he was before. He has fresh legs, and the Bulls will need the former MVP to step up offensively for a team that can struggle to score at times.
