Chicago Bulls Couldn’t Keep Up With The Miami Heat On Opening Night
It wasn’t supposed to go down like this. The first regular season game of the 2013-14 season for the Chicago Bulls was a measuring stick for them. They went up against the two-time champion Miami Heat in the opener, and the results wasn’t pretty. The Bulls fell to the Heat, 107-95.
Coming off a undefeated preseason, the Bulls came into this game with a lot of confidence, and they looked ready to contend with the Heat. After the Heat got their championship rings, they were focused and gave the Bulls a beat down. The Bulls looked out of sync and not in rhythm; they couldn’t knock down shots and turned the ball over way too many times.
Derrick Rose‘s return was not a very good one. He was pressing in the beginning and tried to do a lot in his first game back. He finished with 12 points, on 4-15 shooting, four assists and five turnovers. He was aggressive and his speed was there, but the Heat did a tremendous job trapping and building a wall around Rose to force him to give up the ball quicker than he wanted to. Some of Rose’s shots were layups, and he just couldn’t get them to go down. His three-point shooting was short, just going 1-7.
There were some positives to take from this game. Carlos Boozer led the Bulls with 31 points and seven rebounds. He was dominating in stretches on the game, hitting jumpers and inside moves. Jimmy Butler, after a slow start with foul trouble, came alive in the second half; he finished with 20 points and five steals.
The Bulls and coach Tom Thibodeau will not be happy with the effort they portrayed tonight. They were down big in the beginning and cut it to eight in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t get any closer. The Bulls will always fight to the end and never give up; they will take this game, learn from it, and come back even stronger.
Don’t worry, Bulls fans, it’s only Game 1 of the season and things will get better.
