Recently released Philadelphia 76ers guard Khalif Wyatt has apparently signed with the Guangdong Tigers of the CBA, according to his agent Stephen Pina. He’ll be playing in China’s top basketball league after a brief stint with the Sixers this preseason.

Wyatt is signing a one-year contract with the defending champions of the CBA. The former A-10 Player of the Year and Philadelphia high school standout was surprisingly waived after the last preseason game despite having a mediocre showing, considering he’s a local player and excelled during his time at Temple University. Wyatt averaged 4.3 points in just over 11 minutes with the Sixers this preseason.

He will play alongside former NBA draft pick Yi Jianlian, former NBA prospect and Chinese National Team point guard Chen Jianghua and former Los Angeles Lakers forward Josh Powell this season. He will get a better paying contract as well as a starting role with Guangdong against former NBA stars like Stephon Marbury.

The Sixers still should have kept Wyatt considering how low their expectations are, and he could have come at a low price tag while providing scoring off the bench. Wyatt could be a useful backup to rookie point guard Michael Carter-Williams, who needs to have someone relieve him off the bench. The Sixers currently have Duane Morris as his backup at the point, so they could use Wyatt’s help.

Wyatt was undrafted in this summer’s NBA draft, but played exceptionally well in the summer league and even put up better stats than second overall pick Victor Oladipo. Guangdong has won eight league titles since the league’s inaugural season in 1993.
