What Milwaukee Bucks Must Do To Win Season Opener
The Milwaukee Bucks will not be a team that will dominate opponents on the offensive side of the ball. Obviously, if certain players, such as O.J. Mayo, Ersan Ilyasova or Larry Sanders get going offensively then the Bucks would be thrilled. However, they are a team built to win based on defensive performance. That will certainly hold true in the season opener against the very talented New York Knicks.
If it comes down to basket-for-basket, the Bucks simply will not beat the Knicks. Milwaukee’s organization has put together a young team that will thrive on a stifling defense and break-away points. It will certainly not be an easy task but if the Bucks can put forth a solid defensive effort against an offensively loaded Knicks team then that should prove where they stand in the conference.
At this point, Milwaukee does not have an identity. In theory, their identity will be an aggressive group of players who will use the combination of savvy veterans and youth to their advantage. However, for all we know the Bucks could bust out of the gate this season on an offensive streak. It would not be a huge surprise if Mayo or Ilyasova carried the team on any given night. With that being said, it would be more realistic if different players stepped up throughout the course of the season.
Fans are excited about the season opener because no one really knows what to expect from Milwaukee. Part of the reason for that is because of the injuries. Not to mention, there are only three players that were on the roster last season that will be returning this year.
It is good that the Bucks will be taking on the Knicks in the first game because it will show where the mentality of the team is.
