Evan Turner Should Be On Trading Block
The Philadelphia 76ers got embarrassed on their home court last night against the Golden State Warriors. A big reason could have been Evan Turner’s trash talking to former teammate Andre Iguodala via text messaging.
While both are friends and Turner was probably doing the trash talking as a joke, it should serve as a reminder there are certain things that should have been kept to himself. Yes, the Sixers were undefeated, but Turner should know winning streaks eventually come to end.
He should also realize the Sixers can unload his contract to another team which might not be such a bad idea considering the team is still in the chase for next summer’s top draft pick, Andrew Wiggins. Turner’s having a career season averaging 21.8 points, 1.8 steals, five assists and shooting over 52-percent from the field; however, his trade value will be high if he keeps this pace.
The Sixers are better trading the former second overall pick for another team’s first-round pick to increase their chances winning the NBA Draft Lottery.
Turner is the Sixers’ star this season. He may take a backseat next season as rookie Michael Carter-Williams has a season under his belt and the Sixers first pick will be getting touches, as well.
Turner provides rebounding, outside shooting and scoring, but can be easily replaced with Andrew Wiggins as both play small forward and moving Turner to shooting guard will diminish his role.
He will also be a restricted free agent next summer and may test the market despite the Sixers being able to offer more money and teams’ pockets will be tighter with the salary cap decreasing next summer.
The Sixers can do a complete rebuild and part with Turner if they are looking at next year’s draft and free agent class. Turner will be asking for top dollar, but may not be worth the gamble.
