Phoenix Suns: Eric Bledsoe Playing Near All Star Level So Far

A week into the 2013 season, the Phoenix Suns are 2-1 and playing relatively good basketball. One of the highlights thus far has been the play of guard Eric Bledsoe and how his game has exploded onto the scene early on.

What has stuck out to me most about Bledsoe is how quick he is, regardless of what he’s doing. Bledsoe is a quick, smooth and athletic guy and it shows in every aspect of his game. Running the break early on, Bledsoe has handled the ball with a touch that is incredibly pleasing to see if you’re a Suns fan.

Taking the ball inside the paint at times has been a key to Bledsoe’s game. He’s been able to weave through traffic and either finish at the hole, draw a foul or set up a teammate for an easy flush on most occasions. He’s running the offense in an exciting manner and his statistics show just that.

Although he’s averaged 5.7 turnovers per game — that is his one major downfall — Bledsoe is the Suns’ number one option on offense and they’re going to rely on him to have the ball in his hands in plenty of key situations. Still young, some of those situations will result in turnovers for the guard. But, in due time, he’ll get more and more comfortable within the system and be able to protect the ball much better.

Through three games, Bledsoe has averaged 22.0 points, 8.7 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals — quite the impressive line. The most impressive moment of his early season has been the game-winning three point bucket with 0.7 seconds left on the clock against the Utah Jazz in the second game of the year.

Having the confidence to dribble up the court and let the clock wind all the way down, then drill such a huge shot is a great sign for this Suns team. They have a leader and a true budding star in the making with Bledsoe.
