The Indiana Pacers will travel to take on the Brooklyn Nets in their most difficult test of the season. The Pacers are the lone undefeated team in the NBA and are 6-0 for the first time since their ABA days. The Nets made some big offseason moves in picking up Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett from the Boston Celtics. A mix of veterans with Nets stars from last year in Brook Lopez, Deron Williams and Joe Johnson equals trouble for the Pacers.
The two disadvantages for the Pacers is they will be on a second game of a back-to-back on the road in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn fans will be loud and ready to cheer on their team that they hope will challenge the Miami Heat this year in the east. The Nets have to get through one of the toughest defenses in the league in the Pacers to do just that.
The Pacers have held all their opponents to 40 percent or under at shooting from the floor. Not to mention that the Pacers are undefeated, primarily because of their second-half surges this season. The Pacers have rarely led entering the second half, but have outscored their opponents in the second half. The Pacers can not get behind and must play their most all-around game of the year in order to remain undefeated.
There are many matchup to follow in this game — too many to mention actually. The Nets and Pacers have starting fives that are very evenly matched together, and we may never be able to guess who will emerge as the scoring leader of the night. Even the bench has potential stars that are evenly matched as well. So, how do you predict a winner?
This game is essentially about veteran vs. rookies, aside from David West of the Pacers. Indiana needs to get out early and often and run over the Nets before it is too late. However, if the game is close near the end, look for the veterans of the Nets to take over and end the Pacers’ undefeated season.
