Lance Stephenson’s Triple-Double Pushes Indiana Pacers to 8-0

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

The Indiana Pacers 7-0 start was the best in franchise history, and were looking to extend their winning streak to eight against the Memphis Grizzlies Monday night in Indianapolis. The Grizzlies are a pretty good team, and with Indiana natives Zach Randolph and Mike Conley coming to town, you know they’d love to knock off the undefeated Pacers. Well, that didn’t necessarily work out too well for Memphis.

Indiana is the hottest team in the NBA right now, and a dominating performance over a good Grizzlies team has them scorching atop the league. The Pacers must not like the Grizzlies very much, because they beat them down in every way they could. Roy Hibbert kept his block party rolling with five more tonight, as Indiana held the Grizz to 79 points.

The big storyline of the night was Lance Stephenson, though. Stephenson recorded his first triple-double of his young career with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists. The 10th assist that got him that trip-double was on a Paul George jumper, who finished with 23 points and seven rebounds on the night.

The emergence of Paul George has been the big story this season, but the performance Lance Stephenson is putting on every night can’t go overlooked and is definitely a big part in this great start they’re off to. Stephenson can do everything for Indiana and has been the x-factor so far this season.

Indiana has been playing outstanding defense, and have taken tremendous leaps in their offensive game compared to last season. 82-0 may been near impossible, but taking the first seed in the East is a definitely a possibility. Indiana means business and wants that seed. This team is going to be very tough to beat throughout the rest of this season.
